In the tropics, Ficus is seen as a sacred tree: Buddha is said to have found spiritual enlightenment under a Ficus religiosa. The same kind in Hinduism stands for 'tree of the world' and in Christianity the fig leaves of Ficus Adam and Eve came in handy for covering themselves when they were endowed with knowledge.
